Erasmus expenses, shared fairly: one group for the flat, one per trip
A semester abroad means flatmates from everywhere, weekend trips for six and currencies that keep changing. Partly keeps the money clear until the day you fly home.
Free with ads: 3 active groups, 5 AI scans and 5 payment links per month. Others join the group in the app, by link or QR code.
- Accommodation, 2 nights
- €240.00
- Return bus (4 × €18)
- €72.00
- Groceries and dinner
- €48.00
- Weekend total
- €360.00
- Each of the 4
- €90.00
Marta paid for the room, Jonas for the bus, you for groceries: each adds their expense split equally and Partly works out the paybacks.
What makes money tricky during Erasmus
- Flatmates come from different countries, use different payment apps and don’t all speak the same language.
- Weekend trips go to countries that don’t use the euro: forint, koruna, pound, złoty…
- Small advances (groceries, cleaning stuff, a 3 a.m. taxi) pile up and nobody knows the real balance.
- At the end of the semester everyone leaves at once and the debts are left hanging.
Handle Erasmus expenses in 4 steps
- 01
A “Roommates” group for the flat
Groceries, internet, cleaning supplies: everything shared at home goes in one group. Everyone uses the app in their own language (22 available).
- 02
A “Trip” group for each getaway
Create a group per weekend and share the invite link or QR code: people join in the app. You can enter an expense in another currency; it’s converted to the group currency with the rates available when you save it.
- 03
Everyone adds what they pay
Type the amount or take a photo of the receipt (the AI reads the lines, you check). Equal split, percentages or custom amounts depending on the expense.
- 04
Settle up before you leave
After each trip or at the end of the semester, close the group: Partly shows who owes how much to whom. Everyone adds how they want to be paid back (IBAN, PayPal, Revolut, Wise…), then you record the paybacks.
Built for student life abroad
Several currencies
An expense in forints or pounds is converted to the group currency when saved (you need a connection for the rates).
22 languages
The app comes in 22 languages, so your Spanish, German or Polish flatmates use it in theirs.
Join by link
A link or QR code is enough to join the group in the Partly app.
Cross-border paybacks
Everyone lists how they get paid (SEPA IBAN, PayPal, Revolut, Wise, Bizum…, depending on the country). Partly never moves the money.
Erasmus and shared expenses: FAQ
Can one group mix several currencies?
Yes. Each group has its own currency; an expense entered in another currency is converted with the rates available when you save it. You need to be online to fetch the rates.
My flatmates don’t speak English. Is that a problem?
No. The app is available in 22 languages, including Spanish, Italian, German, French, Portuguese and Polish.
How many groups can I have for free?
The free plan allows 3 active groups. A closed group no longer counts towards that limit, so wrap up last weekend’s trip before opening a new one. Premium removes the limit.
How do I get paid back by someone with a bank in another country?
In the payment settings, everyone adds how they want to be paid back (SEPA IBAN, PayPal, Revolut, Wise…, options depend on the country). The payment happens outside Partly, then you record it in the group.
How do the others join the group?
They install Partly, then join the group in the app with the invite link or QR code. Everyone finds the name reserved for them.
