Calculate reimbursements with an MCP tool

Your MCP-compatible assistant can call calculate_shared_expenses with the amounts, payers and weights you explicitly provide. The server calculates and returns a structured result.

Check a split from explicit data

The tool does not find expenses for you. It helps when your assistant already has a table you supplied and needs to allocate shares without decimal approximation.

Connect and call the tool

  1. 1.Choose a compatible client

Add the HTTPS server in your MCP client using the indicated URL. Your client’s options and terms apply; an MCP URL is not an approved catalogue app.

  2. 2.Supply the arguments

Provide currency, identified participants, integer-cent amounts, payers and per-expense weights. The assistant should not invent missing inputs.

  3. 3.Check the response

Review total, shares and reimbursements. You remain in control of settling; the server never executes a payment.

Fictional example

Example arguments

Fictional calculate_shared_expenses input; 9,000 cents means EUR 90.00.

Total: 12,000 cents. Shares: 4,000 cents each. Ben reimburses Alice 1,000 cents and Chloé reimburses Alice 4,000 cents.

The calculation contract

  • 2–30 participants and 1–100 expenses. Amounts and weights are integers rather than approximate decimal values.
  • One currency from EUR, USD, GBP, CHF and CAD. Positive weights range from 1 to 10,000; omit someone from an expense’s shares to exclude them.
  • The tool does not read files, conversation history or bank accounts. Suggested reimbursements do not guarantee the globally smallest number of transfers.

A request received by a server

Your client sends the supplied arguments to the MCP server for calculation. The application does not persist or log financial content. Your client may retain the conversation; the host processes technical metadata under its own policies. Use aliases.

Practical questions

Can it see the whole conversation?

It receives tool-call arguments. It has no function to retrieve your history, files or accounts.

Can I send decimal euros?

amountCents expects whole cents. Convert EUR 12.50 to 1250 and check the currency before calling.

Do I need a Partly account?

The calculation requires no Partly account. Your MCP client has its own access and compatibility requirements.
